“This study compared the quality of life (QOL) between Korean and Korean American older adults. The participants included 306 older adults (155 Korean, 151 Korean American) age 65 and older who met eligibility criteria and agreed to participate in the study. No significant difference was found in QOL between Korean and Korean American older adults. Differences in the subcategories of QOL between the two
groups included higher scores for the Korean older adults in physical functioning, social functioning, and body pain. Scores for the subcategories of role limitations due CX-6258 in vivo to physical problems and vitality were higher for the Korean American older adults. Multiple regression analysis revealed that the powerful predictors of QOL for both groups were self-esteem and activities of daily living (ADLs)/instrumental ADLs (IADLs). It is recommended that nursing interventions to increase self-esteem and performance of ADLs/IADLs be developed to enhance QOL among older adults.”
“Iron is an essential, but potentially harmful, metal in the brain. In normal brain, iron has been reported to accumulate mainly in glial cells and occasionally in neurons in some particular nuclei. However, the majority of investigations have targeted the adult brain. Here, we investigated spatiotemporal

“The association between dialysis facility size and mortality for patients undergoing hemodialysis remains largely unclear, and whether the relationship differs by race and ethnicity or among high-risk subgroups is not known. Using data from the USRDS, we analyzed mortality rates in 385,074 incident patients ages18 years who received in-center hemodialysis at 4633 dialysis facilities between 2003 and 2009. Facilities were categorized by the number of hemodialysis stations (1-5, 6-10, 11-15, 16-20, 21-25, 26-30, 31-35, 36-45, 46-60, and 61 stations).
