“BACKGROUND

Hypertrophic scars (HScs) are inelastic scars that can cause functional loss and disfigurement. Decorin regulates collagen fibrillogenesis, and its expression is lower in HScs than in normal skin and during wound healing.

OBJECTIVE

To evaluate the efficacy of combined verapamil and triamcinolone in treating HScs.

METHODS

Excised

human HSc fragments from surgically treated burned patients were divided into three groups: A (normal saline), B (verapamil), and C (verapamil and triamcinolone). The specimens were bilaterally implanted in the back of nude mice, treated using intralesional injections, and observed for see more 4 weeks. “Background: Breathing pattern description and chest wall kinematics during phonation have not been studied in male

and female patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Objectives: We used optoelectronic plethysmography to provide a quantitative description of breathing pattern and chest wall kinematics. Methods: Volumes of chest wall compartments (rib cage and abdomen) were assessed in 15 patients while reading aloud (R), singing (SI) and during high-effort whispering (HW). Results: Relative to quiet breathing, tidal volume and expiratory time increased while inspiratory time decreased. The expiratory flow decreased during R and SI, but was unchanged during HW. In males, the end-expiratory volume decreased as a result of a decreased volume of rib cage during R, SI and HW and due to a decreased volume of abdomen during HW. In females, a decrease in end-expiratory volume was accomplished by a decrease in abdominal volume during R and HW. During R, the chest wall end-expiratory volume of the last expiration in females was to the left of the maximal expiratory flow volume D curve (MEFV), with still substantial expiratory reserve volume available.

“Ferroelectric domains were written in lithium niobate (LiNbO3) single crystals by applying voltage pulses to the tip of a scanning force microscope. The generated domains are subsequently imaged by piezoresponse force microscopy. Anti-mesothelin antibodies were assessed by immunoassay of sera from hens with normal ovaries and with ovarian tumors.

Results: Significant mesothelin mRNA expression was observed in 57% (12/21) of hen ovarian tumors but not in normal ovaries and was found predominantly in serous tumors as in humans. “Objective: To report our experience of long-term results of inframalleolar bypass.

Design: Retrospective analysis.

Materials and methods: We analysed 122 inframalleolar bypasses performed between January 1991 and June 2005 in 116 patients. Most patients were treated for critical ischaemia (97%). The indication for the use of podalic arteries was a lack of tibial arteries with run-off to the foot. The dorsalis pedis was predominantly used for distal anastomoses (62.3%) and the greater saphenous vein (84.4%) as the conduit. The follow-up periods ranged from 1 to 60 months.

(SPRinT) was performed on paediatric intensive care unit; the course included a formal team training/scenario of an open-chest ECMO child with acute cardiac tamponade due to blocked chest drains/debriefing by trained facilitators.

RESULTS: Cardiac tamponade was reproducible, and ECMO flow/circuit pressure changes were effective and appropriate. There were eight participants: one cardiac surgeon, two intensivists, one cardiologist, one perfusionist and three nurses. Five of the eight reported the realism of the model and 6/8 the realism of the clinical scenario as highly effective. Eight of eight reported a highly effective impact on (i) their practice and (ii) teamwork. Objective. To present a rare case of extramedullary-intradural

Summary of Background Data. Spinal hemangioblastoma is rare, and moreover, there is seldom purely extramedullary-intradural hemangioblastoma of the spinal cord and there are few reports on histopathological features of spinal hemangioblastoma.

Results.

Conclusion. A rare case of extramedullary-intradural spinal hemangioblastoma was reported. The immunohistopathological findings were helpful for making a final diagnosis.”
